Once our students have taken their primary steps in learning and have acquired the basic skills, we continue the fun and games element but also introduce technology to make their language learning real to them. We want to build their confidence in using English and keep them inspired to want to continue learning English.
In the lower school we give them milestones to keep them motivated at every stage. Our classroom practice is to teach our students interactively with purpose. The syllabus during the lower school years focuses on all 4 skills: reading, speaking, listening and writing using a communicative language teaching method as well as a task/project based approach. Lesson plans focus on all learning styles: visual, auditory, read/write and kinaesthetic. Students assessment is carried out through weekly vocabulary quizzes, grammar quizzes or games as well as monthly unit tests. Finally, at the end of the year we design our own exam which is benchmarked against our standards and based on our carefully designed curriculum. Our exams are compulsory and ensure that students are ready to move on to the next stage. In addition to our own exam, our students can take the Cambridge ESOL Exams. We strongly believe that formal assessment, such as the Cambridge exams, which are recognised worldwide, are necessary as it increases students’ motivational levels, sets personal goals, evaluates performance and gives them the need to revise what they learned.
